The Former Israeli Ambassador to the UK Daniel Taub
Daniel Taub was Israel’s Ambassador from 2011 to 2015. Born a citizen of the United Kingdon, Daniel Taub went to school in Elstree, Hertfordshire at the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School. He studied at University College in Oxford and London and at Harvard in the United States.
In 1989 Danial Taub emigrated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a combat medic and in the Israel Defense Forces international law division as a reserve officer. He worked for President Chaim Herzog as a speechwriter.
In 1991 Daniel Taub joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry where he has continued to work since then. Within the Foreign Ministry, he has worked a variety of posts utilizing his expertise in international law with his specializations in the laws of war and counter-terrorism.
This has brought him to the United Nations on a number of occasions as a legal advisor and as the lead representative to the UN investigative committee on the Gaza flotilla incident.
Daniel Taub has been extensively involved with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and traveled with his Palestinian counterpart to Northern Ireland as a learning experience of the peace process that occurred there years ago. He also negotiated with the International Red Cross movement to end their 70 years of exclusion of Israel’s own Red Cross society, Magen David Adom.
Danial Taub was appointed as the Ambassador to the Court of St. Jame’s with praise that he was a well deserving appointment. He is the second Israeli ambassador to Britain who was born in the United Kingdom.
One of the hallmarks of his tenure as Diplomat to the United Kingdom was the doubling of trade between Israel and the United Kingdom coupled with the deepening of cultural, business and academic links between the two countries. The Israel-Britain Chamber of Commerce estimates that the annual bilateral trade between the countries is over five billion dollars with other estimates close to seven billion dollars. During Danial Taub’s time as Israel’s diplomat over three hundred Israeli businesses set up operations in the United Kingdom.
Hopefully, this golden era of trade will still continue under the new Israeli Diplomat to the United Kingdom and for many years to come after that.
